Biophilia is the use of natural materials within your space, from actual plants to wallpaper with leaf motifs’, this trend is HOT.

Today I am going to share with you not only examples of this in Interior Design spaces both residential and commercial but I am going to give you easy, cost effective, DIY options to help bring this trend into your home.



The best part about this trend, is you don’t have to change your current design style, this is something you can layer into your existing space. The benefits of Biophilia are vast and overall it promotes well being.



Where did the word Biophilia come from?

Biophilia is the term coined by the Harvard naturalist Dr. Edward O. Wilson to describe what he saw as humanity's "innate tendency to focus on life and life like process" and to be drawn toward nature, to feel an affinity for it, a love a craving.

For a long time we have moved away from natural elements in interiors specifically the work place. The recognition of these benefits although wonderful in residential design. It is a major factor in office design due to the overall improved well being of employees.

This involves the play of light and shadows within a space. Studies have found that the quality of light and how it fluctuates are just as important as natural light.
